"I leave a newer, vibrant nation for an enormous beast of a country - one scorched by the sun, and stale with traditions that made my ancestors leave in the first place."
- Elisa describing the differences between Joya d'Arena and Orovalle
Joya d'Arena is a desert kingdom to the south. It is quite large and very old, and is the setting for the majority of the trilogy. It was formerly governed by King Alejandro de Vega, but since his death, it is now ruled by his widow, Queen Lucero-Elisa de Riqueza.
